When I was 10 I saw this program about real life strange emergency room visits. One of them was a woman that had some sort of bug stuck in her ear and a doctor was trying to suction it out. I think it just developed after my dad once told me he can't sleep with ears uncovered. That, or the fact it stops me hearing anything somewhat frightening in the night.
