in a car, imagining a ball, grinding my teeth
When riding in a car on the highway, I feel compelled to imagine a ball bouncing over each telephone/electrical pole in succession. Uneven spacing is a serious problem, as the imagined ball is sort of sluggish. This will go on until I start grinding my teeth and eventually force myself to stop.

Hahaha I am so relieved to find this out!
Mine is an equestrian rider, riding English style, who guides his horse over the signs and concrete parts. Bushes and grass are OK to step on, but he MUST make the horse jump at sidewalks, tollbooths, newspaper stands, etc.
I used to show horses when I was younger, so maybe that is where my equestrian man came from.
I do this to, exvept it has to land in the exact middle of the two poles. it becomes a problem when I’m on an empty strech of road an can’t see both at the same time. I do this either with an imaginaty ball of a tiny speck on the windsheild
I do the exact same thing it is sticking out of the car, but I pull it in by moving my body to the side, and it can’t touch anything
Me too, dammit! When I was a kid I’d move my head up and down in succession with the imagined ball until my dad told me I looked like a retard.
I don’t have a ball. Sometimes a guy on a motorbike. I have this thing where if there is grass or greenery on the side of the road, then my teeth have to be clenched. If there is only cement, then my mouth has to be open. If my mouth remains open longer than ten seconds, I lose. I have never lost, though, because I always cheat or find an excuse.
THANK GOD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE
god bless you you fellow crazy bastard
I do the exact same thing, except with me, my ball can only touch dirt or grass on the side of the road. If there’s a long stretch of asphalt or cement, it can ‘burrow’ under it and then come back up where there’s dirt.
I’m just glad I’m not the only one!
I’m the same way, only my ball is a horse, and it can only travel in the spaces of light on the road.
holy crap im not crazy after all, or are we all crazy?
Damn, I thought I was crazy. Well maybe I still am, but at least I’m not the only one. I wonder what this is called.
The guy on the motorbike!
I don’t feel as crazy now, thanks. =]
I have something kind of like this. It is an imaginary (and completely impossible) blade that extends from my right elbow for about 10-20 feet (off the road). It can cut down any wood or brush that it comes into contact with. However, if it comes into contact with any metal or concrete, it breaks.
I always had a runner who would jump from the posts and run through the rest.
I do the exact same thing. I though I was just a weirdo! Ian, I bounce my head too. Depending on the asphalt to grass ratio, it can only touch one or the other. And I always picture Mario…I don’t even play video games that much…but I still do it. So glad to see that I’m not insane…
Oh and I always subconsciously lock/grind my teeth.
When I was younger it would be a hero, Batman, Indiana Jones, etc. They would use their tools – grappling hook, whip – to cross gaps without wires.
i do this too! ever since childhood i always “count” the poles or lines on the road by tapping my toe… its very frustrating.
Wow, me too, that’s nuts… I hadn’t even thought about it being like a tic.
I do the same thing, except instead of a ball, its the person I have most recently seen jumping over the telephone/electrical poles. I seriously thought I was the only one who imagined something like this. This only happens when I ride in a car, not drive (thankfully).
Mark me down for this one too.
i do it too… only instead of a ball or something, it’s either me running and jumping, or some other animal… on walls and trees and such.
on the highway, i always imagine the car bouncing. the tires only touching the lines, and jumping over the gaps. >.>
mine is actually the car itself, and it has to land on stretches of cement where you could normally park or between those things that measure snowfall in the mountains. it doesn’t jump over things, but if there’s a long stretch of grass or a big driveway it does a flip in the air. and it has to land perfectly on all 4 wheels when it bounces.
it drives me crazy, i always try to make myself stop :[
holy shit I do the exact same thing, except sticking out of the car
if it comes to something metal I have to “pull” it in until we pass
oh shit im exactly the same we should make a club.
I do that too, but rather than a ball, it would be a speck or scratch on the window.
Yeah i had the exact same thing! wow this is so weird, and sometimes he would swing from the poles!
Me too! I have an imaginary gymnast who jumps on the telephone poles and other signs.
I concur. Only my blade extended downwards instead of horizontally, so it cuts through the dirt as it goes. When it hits concrete or rock, it spins around until we have passed over the obstacle, then resumes cutting our path.
Me too! Holy god! Sometimes it’s a kid on a skateboard or a guy on a bike!
i use a skateboarder but i dont even skateboard.
rofl
For me, I have to time it with my breath. Inhale is “up”, and exhale is “down”. I had to have my breath all the way in any time we passed a pole, but I could skip as many poles as I could keep my breath held for.
when I was a kid it was only ever on the school bus in the mornins, and it was always me doing it, and somewhere in the back of my head was the thought “if the other kids only knew how well I could JUMP” hahahaha
I did this when I rode the bus back in school.
I used a bicycle.
as a kid I used to imagine a similar thing, only with a fireaxe I’d cut down the poles in one fell sweep.
Weirdddd….I kind of do this too. Except I picture a person, who is either running or on a bike, and they have this kind of ribbon coming out of them and they have to weave between poles and signs and stuff, and once I start doing it, I cannot miss a pole or the person will crash.
Mine is a kangaroo!
That made me laugh so hard tears are rolling down my face
Ahh, I used to do this, except the ball wasn’t a ball…it was Samurai Jack. I am not kidding.
OMG I was just goign to say that! I always had a spiderman/ninja character that used the poles as vaulting points and the cars and wires as… I digress, but yeah, this made my night. I think i’m developing a neurosis for reading this site until theres nothing left to read…
Actually, it worried me when I began driving. I still do it but this time I have to mark off each “jump” with a “click” of my teeth. If a car goes by on the left than on the left side, if i pass a phone poll on the right its a click of the right side of my mouth. I always was afraid that I would do this while driving and get in an accident. I still worry about that
I do that, too. My ball has to touch either the cement, or a plank of wood sticking up from the ground.
This is all very creepy. I have never told anybody about this. I got motorbike, fourwheeler, snowmobile, etc.
Too weird! I used to do this when I was younger, except it was a motorcycle, and I never did grind my teeth… Or maybe I did.
I actually envision Sonic the Hedgehog jumping, or Mario jumping over everything.
i have a giant cat on top of the car that hops over all the telephone wires, i have speedy gonzales running by the side and over obstacles, and sometimes i imagine the wires different colours as the cat goes over them
I do a similar thing, i imagine myself jumping from building to building at the side of the road; I’m not allowed to touch the ground so I have to jump on any raised object. The game usually ends when we go past a really long stretch of just nothing and I decide that my incredible superhuman jumping skillz just aren’t up to it
this is really weird… i do the exact same thing except it’s a car that jumps over shadows in the road and can only drive in the lit patches…
It’s the tip of my tounge for me. I’ll go above trees, between the passing lines on the road, anything. It’s nice to have company in this insanity.
yeah exactly like me
I always pictured a little man, running alongside the car, jumping from object to object (usually signs) but whenever he came to one of those little white, cylindrical poles along the highway, those ones with the black tops, he would have to eat them. I don’t know for certain, but I’m sure my head followed his movements.
