conversational keyboard
A lot of the time, in normal conversation I end up ‘typing’ out the conversation in my head on my mental keyboard. It’s actually really irritating sometimes, and I can’t seem to shake it off.

Me too! And my fingers move the whole time. I’m so glad I’m not alone.
Whoa, I am not alone. I have done that for the last 13 years of my life, since keyboarding class in high school. I have to say though, I’m a damn fast typer as a result and I imagine you are, too, so look on the bright side! Good to know you’re out there though as I’ve never met anyone else who does this!
I actually used to do that a LOT in high school – also after I took keyboarding. I’ve gotten away from it for the most part in later life, but I still catch myself doing it now and then.
I STILL do this after taking keyboarding in high school (10th grade…that was 18 years ago now).
This happens to me, too – and not just my own “head conversations.” It’s not even limited to a mental keyboard – I tap my fingers in real life doing this. No matter how hard I try, I also cannot shake it off. You’re not alone
i always thought i was the only person who did this! have been doing this one for at least 10-15 years since i first started learning to type!!
I’ve also done this since I learned to type…ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO! Thanks you coming out…I never knew there were others
Wow, I also have been doing this for about 4 years. Though usually it’s when I’m thinking things through by myself rather than in conversation.
I also often imagine it like I’m texting on a phone.
Wow! I do the exact same thing. My friend taught me sign so now I have started signing conversations that I hear too.
i text a lot, so when i type on a normal keyboard i think in my head gH dE jkL jkL mnO instead of just hello
I’ve been doing this for 10 years!
I’m glad it’s not just me.
I once accused someone of making a “typo” when they were writing on a white-board
.
haha i do this too. im so glad im not alone
I do this as well…
When I hold my boyfriend’s hand, and someone is having a conversation, he’ll feel my fingers start to tap on his skin…and will look at me and smile…only we know my secret….
It is very weird though. However, I can type as fast as lightning.
I used to do this for the longest time, I think i’ve stopped or it hasn’t happened recently becaues i’m not aware of it. I would always type out with my fingers, what I was saying when i was in a conversation with somebody. I felt like a weirdo doing it. Thanks for letting me know i’m not alone.
I had this one for several years. I think for a while I was actually slowing down my thinking so that I could ‘type’ it out. My typing’s not as good these days, but I really don’t miss this one.
I do this all the time! In fact, sometimes i type out a conversation as I’ve having one. I didn’t even realize I was doing it until my friend asked what the hell was wrong with my fingers. Usually, I can keep it to myself – which itself is very tiring – but its even worse if I act it out.
I, unfortunately, do this too. It sucks because when I’m thinking about it I have to do the whole thing and if I mess up I have to start over until I get it right.
I do that too and can type very very fast. Although sometimes it happens that I’m not able to follow one’s speed of talking or the lyrics of a song. That makes me really upset.
I DO THIS!
It drives me crazy. Sometimes, I just sit there and type in my head. It freaks me out.
I do something similar, and I actually move my fingers while doing it like a few others who have commented. The part I really hate about it is when I feel I’ve made a typing error and have to hit the imaginary backspace key. It really does drive me nuts sometimes.
My husband sent me this link. I have also done this since taking typing class back in high school. I only do it in the car when I’m driving though – like road signs and I’ll count numbers and type them out like one, two, three, etc. It has gotten much better since going on Prozac 6 months ago. It seems to be worse when I am anxious or stressed out.
i actually do this a lot when i’m trying to fall asleep, for some odd reason.
either on a mental keyboard, or as if i were texting.
or i’ll just repeat things i’ve said or thought recently. easier than counting sheep, i suppose.
I do that too… or with my text keypad
I always picture the letters being spelled out in front of me, it just started this year and I hate it.
