time is a ratio then a fraction then reduced
Every time I see a digital clock, I automatically convert the time into a fraction, with the hour as the numerator and the minutes as the denominator, then reduce that fraction to its lowest form. 3:27 becomes 1/9, 4:32 becomes 1/8, etc.

Oh man, you just made my life so much more difficult.
OMg, I do this too. And I also divide. So if it is 3:22, 3 goes into 7 remainder 1. That is 8. 8 goes into 22 2 remainder 6, that is 8, I keep going and going until I reach a repeating number or an evenly divided end point.
I have been doing this since fourth grade.
I looked over at my clock to figure out how this might work, and saw the time and converted it…. turned back to verify I did as expected, and realized that it was 1/8… 4:32 as in the example.
Wow. I think I’ll begin doing this just to improve my lousy math skills.
I don’t do that so much anymore but when I was younger (Grade-Middle school) I always converted time into fractions or other kinds of math problems. Glad to know I’m not alone! Although, I have since moved on to other neuroses. So it goes.
I do something similar to this. Whenever I write the date, I have to make some sort of mathematical sense out of it. For example, today’s 6/13/08 is 6+3=8+1.
