need to find another manhole cover
I cannot walk on an uneven number of Manhole covers. I will jump over them, walk in the road or even change the route that I walk in order to avoid it as it is bad luck. Even numbers though bring good luck so it isn’t all bad news.

I do this too. My girlfriend finds it terribly amusing and tries to nudge me on to ’3′s’. It’s ok though, if you stand on a single one straight after it evens the numbers up and negates possible badness.
I only just realised how irrational that is after re-reading the last paragraph.
i have never been able to walk across 3 manhole covers. was considered the worst of bad luck at primary school, and although i don’t really believe it will cause bad luck i simply cannot step on the third cover.
I avoid any that don’t have stars on them.
I do this too, although only the square concrete electricity/telecoms ones; not the iron circular ones. I consider two grates to be good luck, especially if I place my foot on the join between the two grates; and I avoid the three connected grates as I consider this bad luck.
For a while I fluctuated between believing that I had to step on a single grate after stepping on a three grater (to negate the bad luck effect) or quickly find a two-grater to acheive the same effect. Nowadays I plump for the latter and usually feel that one-graters are neither good or bad luck.
It doesn’t totally run my life and I realise that it is all irrational.. I even kind of enjoy playing find the two-graters’ when I go out for a jog, it helps to pass the time… Oh My God, I am going mental aren’t I ?
mee too! unevens=bad luck, evens=good luck and one on it’s own means make a wish i was told that by a friend 13 years ago and have been doing it ever since, even to the point of forcing people out the way to avoid unevens.
