exact change
My boyfriend has to have 4 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 4 pennies in his pocket at all times after he gets dressed. He will not leave the house without this, and he will make change if necessary to keep this exact amount in his pocket at all times! A little neurotic I would say!!

That’s the exact amount of coins required to total any amount of change required in cents. (Except he carries an extra quarter I would think.) With 3 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 4 pennies you can make pay anything between x.01 to x.99 with exact change.
He’s just being efficient in knowing that he doesn’t have to carry any more annoying coins to get the exact change of any item whichever it may be. Tell him to get rid of that extra quarter
What would be more annoying I would think would be that after making change once, he would have to run home to get re-equipped with the “exact change arsenal.” All efficiency would be lost, yes?
What about four one dollar bills, a five dollar bill, two ten dollar bills, and a whole bunch of twenties plus this change for ultimate exact change?
