death by fan
”’(The student) told us that if you are in a sealed room with an electric fan, it will lower your body temperature and you will die.’”
Urban legend: That fan could be the death of you (Toronto Star) – Thank you to the reader who sent this in.

Oh yeah, and every fan in Korea comes equipped with a timer. That way, if you like having the fan on when you go to bed, you can, but it won’t stay on for the duration of the night.
This is commonly believed in Korea. I’m not Korean, but I live and teach English here.

Insanity.
Body temperature has to drop about twelve degrees (F) below normal (98.6 degrees F) before major organ failure and clinical brain death occurs. This is considerably more than a ceiling fan alone can be held solely responsible for. So does anyone know where this idea comes from, if this is apparently not a personal neurosis but a cultural belief or superstition? I tried clicking pattycakes’s Wikipedia link, but there was nothing there.
