double-pon
When I use tampons, I’m always afraid I might put two tampons in a row and just thinking about it makes me sick. So I have to write on the paper wrapping each single tampon “don’t forget to take out your tampon” to remind myself to take out the previous tampon before I put in the new. This fear obsesses me all day long and makes me sick. And if my stomach aches because of this fear, I start thinking it hurts because I must have put in two tampons in a row. It’s really stupid because a girl who really did it told me the tampon who “went too far” will go down eventually and you don’t even have to go to hospital. Still I can’t help being afraid and I even count my tampons, just in case I forgot one inside.

Not a woman here but, just wondering, logically and logistically speaking, wouldn’t the string of the first one be right there as a reminder?
this has actually happened to me, but i realized right after i did it. sometimes the string, uh, gets pushed up in near the tampon, so it’s not that hard to forget if you’re not thinking about it.
Actually, if the tampon gets pushed in, (like if you put two in at once) it won’t get “lost” in your body. It will hit your cervix and stop. Just for you peace of mind, if you accidentally went to put two in, you would hurt yourself by the pressure of the “first” tampon against your cervix. There really is no danger. Now, the contraceptive sponge is another story entirely…that bugger will get stuck in you and sometimes require a hospital visit to remove.
I’m pretty sure you would feel it if there were two in there at once. I do recall reading a story of a girl who left one in there and then put another one in there until she smelled terrible from 4ft away. Then it fell out.
that happened to me one time. i didn’t notice until i went to replace it (them) a few hours later. i was completely surprised that i forgot to take the first out before i put in the second but yeah…no big deal.
Why don’t you just use birth control pills continuously without taking the placebo pills and not have periods at all? They aren’t necessary unless you want to be fertile. I haven’t had one in years and my doc says there’s no need to. Ask your doc if you don’t feel comfortable taking someone on the internet’s word.
In response to “hmmm” ….you might want to read up on the health implications of long-term contraceptive use (increased chance of heart failure, cancer, etc.) I can’t believe that those risks wouldn’t be increased by never having a period.
When I was at Uni our Biology lecturer sold me on the whole contraceptive/period thing. You need to think about it like this:
!) we’re not having babies til we’re twenty, thirty, even forty. We’re biologically supposed to be having babies from when we get our first period, and you are more or less period-free the entire time you are breastfeeding, and then you’re pretty much supposed to get preggers again! So women should really be having very few periods in a lifetime. Of course, this is not the case for most women, and as a result a lot of women suffer bad period pain, anemia, heavy flows, even cancer and infertility etc cos they’re having too many periods. Plus, we’re getting our first menses as young as 8 or 12 and the menopause is coming later and later for most women, so we’re really pushing our bodies to the limit.
We’re basically nothing more than a baby machine (sad but true), yet in our modern
Western society (assuming the only people who have time to be neurotic are from Western cultures
Just something to consider. I personally am on a break from the Pill after five years of having one period a year. I am not certain that artificial hormones are good for women, and they have not been used for long enough (barely two generations) for there to be enough testing done on side effects.
Sorry to bring this to the table, just think it’s interesting. And Kate, there is quite a bit of research supporting my statement above. I can link through to it if you like.
To the poster,
I have ‘lost’ a few over the years and have a bit of advice. If this ever happened (in my case, there was just one), the best recommendation I have is to be patient and relax. The more your muscles contract, the harder it will be. Wordgirl had a good point-it won’t entirely get ‘lost’-just ‘lost’ from reach. If this happened to you and you were unable to retrieve it, I would never recommend waiting for it to come back to you, lol. That’s just asking for an eventual case of TSS or a bacterial infection. Just set an appt. with your gyno and have him/her help (as unappealing as that sounds). On another note, you may want to consider pinning the existing tampon some how? Maybe tape it to your panties or something? That might save you the trouble of counting or labeling your others. That way, you won’t have to worry so much about whether it might be there or not. Your strategy may be easier though!
Why don’t you just stop using tampons? and go back to pads/kotex instead? I never really started using tampons…too weird and painful.
yeah, its happened to me, it really isn’t that bad, but i’ve never lost the string, always surprised i could have been so stupid though!!!
I am so glad that there are people responding to the implications of taking birth control continuously. It is very bad for your body. My best friend has had to take the pill since she was 12 due to cysts and extreme periods. She had to go off when she was 25 due to liver failure. 25 and has liver failure due to Birth control!!! These hormones are not good for us women! Please remember that doctors( US especially) are paid by the drug companies to push any and all types of pills on people. Doesnt mean its okay or even ethical. There are more alternatives to birth control that are much better for our bodies and dont harm as much in the long run.
First- this has TOTALLY happened to me. Several times. I know..how can you FORGET???? I dunno..ya just do!!
Second – the torp ain’t gonna go nowhere. Either reach up and get i (or both) out or do what Afi says a go to the doctor. I’m sure he/she has seen weirder things.
Third- I am DONE having babies SO WHY DO I NEED A PERIOD??? I’ve done the whole not taking placebo thing with the pill but then my prescription gets all outta whack…blah…blah…blah… Just stop the bleeding already!!! UGH!
You could switch to using the Diva Cup, which is a little rubber cup that collects the blood rather than absorbs it. Pros: it’s environmentally friendly since it produces no waste (think of all the wrappers and applicators and containers and cotton that gets thrown away with every box of tampons), you can use it over and over again every month, you will not have to buy tampons if you get your period unexpectedly, and you will save money since you won’t be buying tampons every month. Cons: you will need to clean it, probably by boiling it. But you’ll never have to worry about accidentally inserting two ever again!
rebecca, that’s gross. i have a hard enough time touching the little string and throwing away a panty liner. i’m grimacing as i type. i love the environment but not that much.
I didn’t mean to offend…. see, I’m pretty difficult to gross out – I’ve worked in a wildlife rehabilitation hospital, so I’m used to cleaning up spoiled food mixed with animal waste and all kinds of bodily secretions, and I’ve watched animals undergoing major surgery (which is NOT as clean as it looks on TV). And I enjoy the work and am pursuing a career in the field! So I forget sometimes that other people don’t have my threshold. Periods don’t faze me in the least.
Wow. I’ve never thought it was possible to put two in and not know it. Some of you ladies must have really long vaginae.
So…you can’t *feel* it in there? o_O
