kate winslet and sam mendes look out for their kids
“The Reader’ actress and her director spouse Sam Mendes insist on traveling separately because they are terrified of being involved in an air crash which would leave their children – Mia, Kate’s eight-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, and five-year-old son Joe – without their parents. … The couple’s phobia is said to stem from different air incidents they were involved in.”

If they actually were involved in previous air incidents, it probably isn’t bad idea to never go on flights together.
My parents rode motorcycles when I was younger, with a large group of other riders, and they would always switch wives so that no couple was on the same bike. That way, none of us would be left parentless.
Lindsey- that’s the sweetest thing i’ve ever heard.
That way of traveling is actually widely recognized (I think its pretty dang smart too, especially for parents)… Our clothing company owns 7 different branded companies, and when they travel to NY or LA for market, the brands’ Buyers and Merchandisers are not allowed to fly together, in case something happens. It all stems from something that happened a while back with all of the Buying staff from TJ Maxx, where they all flew together, their plane crashed and they were completely left without anyone running that part of the business… So now our company won’t even allow it. Crazy huh?
My parents do this!
Unless the whole family (all of my siblings) are on the same flight as them, they wont fly together.
Either we all go down, or one of them is there for us.
Its a good idea. I’ll do it too.
the partners at the design firm where i used to work always flew separately after a very scary flight that they took together. they felt better knowing that one of them would be ok if something happned and would take care of the families and company. turns out a lot of companies have rules about travel and some families do the same.
but more people die from automobile accidents, don’t they?
absolutely. i think plane crashes are scarier for that exact reason — they are rare and nearly always complete devastation. people feel more in control when they are driving their own cars so crashing is probably not in the front of their brains all the time. should be, though. they’d be more attentive.
Who decides when and where they’re going to die? If your time is up, the angel of death will find you wherever you are; he always keeps his appointments.
