doing someone else’s job
my friends can’t stand to shop with me because I always have to make sure that clothing is neat and tidy on the racks. Zippers must be pulled all the way up, all the buttons buttoned, everything folded neatly and stacked nicely. I have an irrational fear that if I ignore something I see or leave clothing messy that the sales people will get mad and kick me out of the store for messing everything up.

Sales people are payed to clean up after people. So make your mess to give the sales clerk something to do.
We hate you Dan.
boo boo, if Dan wasn’t right about sales people getting paid to clean up after people, you might not have a job.
We have other things to do than clean up after people. It just makes everything harder for the next customer to come in and find what they want, in their size/ color etc. I hate the fact that people take advantage of other people especially in sales (clothing/food/ goods and products) it just drives me crazy. WE ARE NOT PAID TO CLEAN UP AFTER PEOPLE. We are paid to assist people around the store.
I do this too. My friends make fun of me all the time. I also clean up the table at restaurants.
I didn’t realise that I did that too until the third time I got mistaken for someone working in a shop rather than a customer. If I walk past something in a clothes shop that’s been all messed up and looks untidy I tend to fold it, or button it up properly and put it on the hanger or whatever. Then next thing I know, someone is saying “excuse me, do you have this in a size ten?” and I have to awkwardly mumble that I don’t work there. Leaving both of us quite embarassed.
Well, no salesclerk will kick you out, but if they see you they might say thank you. It is true that in some stores, there are people paid to clean and tidy it up. My dad has this idea that if you don’t want something, you walk all the way back to put it up, or else the store will have to hire someone to do it, making prices higher. Know what? Working in a store now, I see he is right. I wish I had that issue at home, then my house would be clean. I tend to ignore the mess.
I do the same thing, though I worked in retail for years. And no we are not there to clean your messes we are there to make sure you don’t steal things, to persuade you to buy more things, and to take your money.
I wish there were more people like you boo boo is right.. we ARE NOT being paid to clean after people but for assist them, it only makes our job harder AND the next costumers get mad for loosing time!
