behind the scenes
Sometimes when I watch a movie or TV show, I will start imaging what the script says (e.g. “A man sleeping on the couch is visible in the reflection of an old TV. Slow-dripping water and the buzz of an alarm clock in another room can be heard”). Also I become fixated on the extras and how hard they are trying to act and what directions they were given. Sometimes I get so distracted by this that I don\’t even pay attention to the plot.

I guess you need to be a director or a script writer! lol
same here. i also wonder how the extras were chosen & how they were convinced to act like they do, and if scenes ever have to be reshot because of them? this is really prominent when there are large crowds…
I laughed the entire time I read this because I can’t help, when I see a little kid as an extra in one of today’s television shows, but to imagine how, 20 years from now, a Hollywood gossip television show will present a screen shot of one of today’s shows, fade out the rest of the image except for the kid’s head, then zoom in on it and say, “Look at him 20 years ago before he became the famous actor he is today!” One day, I’m going to jump off of my couch and yell, “I KNEW IT!”
i just had to smile after i read this knowing i was on the exact same page as you, i always tell my mom i have to be a director when i am older, even though that’s not what i want to do.
I do this, as well as analyze the angle of the camera, the speed of the scene, relevance to what’s going on, length of each shot compared to relative excitement, soundtrack, sound effects… And then on top of that, analyzing the storyline and effectiveness of the actors in expressing what the director wanted. NEVER take a media class… Oh yeah, this applies to commercials AND music as well. Do you know the key and time signature of all your favourite songs?
Man I started doing this after my creative writing class where I first got introduced to screenwriting. I still do
