perfect, pristine books
I cannot stand when books are opened too much or enough that the spine is cracked or lines are formed. Pages also cannot be bent in the corners to mark their place. If this happens I usually have to buy a new book to replace it.

I’m the opposite. New books are dull. Old books, with their covers cracked so much that they can lie flat when open, and pages so dog-eared that they might just lose their corners are the most appealing. These books have been loved. Read over and over again. These books are worth reading, worth owning.
I’m with the OP. When I lend books to people, I have to make sure they’re aware that the spine must not be creased. If I think there’s a chance that they might fold over the pages, I “accidentally” leave a bookmark in the book.
I’m not like that with my own books, matter of fact I rather enjoy re-reading a book and finding that once or twice I stop at the same spot as I did the first time by looking at the crease in the page.
Other people’s books however I am the opposite, I am very careful that they go back in exactly the same condition that they came to me in. I like my books to have a bit of character but not everyone is like that.
OMG ME TOO!! >.<;;
