the game i play with myself
Every time I leave the house I have to follow this same ritual. 1. Lock the front door 2. Walk to the end of the walk 3. Run back and check that the door is locked I repeat this 2 to 5 times and am never convinced that the door is secure, always leaving with an uneasy feeling, even though I KNOW it’s locked.

you do know that this is OCD, right?
I do this with my car
I do the same thing… I do it with my car, my house, my work… often getting halfway home and turning back to check if I locked the door, if I don’t remember clearly locking it. I guess after so many years, it’s routine… I remember locking it… but my brain says “Yeah, but did you lock it THIS time..” bah!
I do the same thing, but with more than the door. I have to make sure the curling iron is unplugged or that the tooth brush is wet so I know I brushed my teeth because I dont clearly remember it or because I’m convinced what I remember happened another day. Thank god, I’m not the only one.
I’ve managed to get the returns trips down to two (used to be four or five) by make the event significant so I’ll remember it better. I’ll sing a song or dance around while I brush my teeth or knock on the door while I’m locking it. Anything to make it stand out more. Try that. It might help.
there is a new show on A&E starting monday, may 25th called “obsessed”. can you guess what it’s about??
Why is this even selected for a post? Classic OCD.
I used to do something like this with my alarm on my phone… I would keep being afraid after I set it that I somehow actually failed to set it. I eventually got over it, though I don’t know how.
lmfaooooooooooo
I do the same thing with my alarm clock. I’ll turn it on, then try to go to sleep, but then hit the backlight to see if it’s really on or not. That happens about 3 times before I go to sleep.
I do the same thing with locks and straighteners – though I think it might be an obsessive compulsive habit. I solved the problem by tapping, which kind of affirms my suspicion
