food glass
I read a book when I was a teenager where the “villain” killed some people by putting ground up glass in hamburgers. The glass apparently caused internal bleeding and all of the people who ate the hamburgers died. Reading this caused me to develop an intense fear of eating glass. Whenever a glass breaks in my kitchen, I must wash out every glass before using it, and inspect each one very closely afterwards to make sure none of the broken glass is in any of the-non broken glasses. I do this even though the non-broken glasses were safe in the cupboard the entire time.

I read that book too. We should have stuck to the classics.
Why don’t you just avoid eating hamburgers? That would make more sense.
I agree with M
FYI ground glass can’t kill people. But large chunks can. But then again, you will feel them in your mouth.
I totally read that book too and do exactly the same thing! i never really even took the time to see if it was actually possible for that to happen but i’m still really paraniod about it.
Just quietly (I am about to ruin going out for you), I have worked in hospitality for years and the amount of broken glass which is everywhere behind the bar, in the kitchen, in the washroom, is incredible. The time I cleaned out the glass washer I cut myself dozens of times on tiny shards. If you are worried about this, then rest at peace. If that was actually an issue, hundreds would die each week after drinking beer from the pub…
hey daniel — how about the ice stations? EEEEK!
THIS IS ALL CHRISTOPHER PIKE’S FAULT.
i totally read that book too, and it was not just the idea of that kind of death, but the horrifying description, that did it for me.
I looked it up on snopes. So I’m not worried.
this also happened in the show oz, they consistently fed some guy ground up glass in his food and it ultimately killed him. a serious drag but i never worried about it until now.
OMG! I read that book too and it freaked me out soooo much!
HOLY SHIT CHRISTOPHER PIKE!
what was this book called? i remember the story so vividly…with the statue that changed colors and became filled…
It’s called The Immortal. The ground glass thing freaked me out until eventually I looked it up and found this old case where a doctor or a scientist swallowed ground glass on the stand during a murder trial to prove it was OK.
