My mom has a thing about being late/making me late for everything. I would often tell her I have to be somewhere an hour and a half before i had to be so that she would get me there on time.

I tried that many times but I agree with Luis. I used to do that with my alarm clock in the morning. i would set it some odd amount of time off like 17 minutes. Then I would wake up and spend a few half-awake minutes trying to subtract 17 from whatever the time was so I knew exactly how much time I could sleep. I could never trick myself.

I can't stand people who do that. My clocks are always almost right (one or two minutes more or less), and I really think it is a stupid habit. Sometimes you need to be able to know if you can still have time to do something before going somewhere else - and in that case your clock will not help you... Besides, you reach a point where you learn to have 20 minutes tolerance because you know that's how much time you have ahead, and you start going to places at 20:20 instead of 20:00 because your clock is 20 minutes ahead, until the day you follow some other clock and you really get there late.

I do this too! However, I don't want anyone to know how early I am so I always have to sit in the car or walk around until it's time.
