lonely words
When writing notes, as in class or studying for example, if I am coming to the end of a point and realize that I will have to start a new line for only one word, I will either spread out my words, or leave a space at the end of the line, so that there will be at least 2 words on the next line. I can’t start a new line for only one word, it looks lonely.

perfectly valid
this ‘lonely word’ is called an ‘orphan’ if you are a graphic designer, and they should definitely be avoided.
I’m the same way, but it’s not because the word looks lonely, it’s just that I can’t stand it when only one word takes up an entire line, because it’s such a waste of space, especially if I’m skipping lines between points.
