empty bowl
Every time I flush the toilet, I watch until the bowl has completely emptied out…I’m always afraid it will back up and overflow if I’m not watching.

I just like to see what didn’t digest. Sometimes I am like “it has been 10 days since I ate corn” and I am surprised to see it stayed in me that long.
I totally used to do that. Until, that is, I found out that leaving the lid up when you flush actually spreads a crazy amount of poo-dust into the air–which can land pretty far away. In most cases, your toothbrush is within poo-dust range. So that’s when I stopped…and also when I got a new toothbrush.
Watching the bowl until full evacuation is especially important at work. I have been very unpleasantly surprised on at least two occasions when said bowl decided to fill and eventually overflow. Can’t really call for backup in that situation. No pun intended with the “backup.”
Ditto what Germ-a-phobe said. I’d rather just assume the bowl gets emptied, rather than be sprayed with poo dust. It can travel up to six feet. Yuck!
I examine my poop (color, texture, buoyancy — doesn’t everyone do this?), then flush, then jump backward to avoid getting any on me.
BTW you’re 100% correct; if you don’t watch it will overflow.
I wish my roommate had that habit. She’s always leaving me little “floating surprises” because she doesn’t watch to see that everything went down. I always make sure it does and then flush again if it doesn’t.
I always close the lid before I flush, to avoid the poo spray, then hold down the flush thing for an incredibly long time to make sure everything flushes, then open it to check once it’s settled, then flush again if necessary. Every single time.
I do this too! And because the flush doesn’t work right I have to hold the plunger until the bowl empties. If the rest of the water doesn’t flush down right or makes the wrong noise I’ll either keep flushing or wait until the water refills and the toilet is still and silent and then re-flush again until the sound and emptying is correct
you can easily fix the flushing mechanism so you won’t be wasting so much time and water. go to home depot and get the kit. it’s very very simple!
I do this as well, but only because I want to make sure there are no “leftovers” to gross out the next person. I hate when people leave me leftovers, gross. Everyone should watch to make sure the water clears.
