egg string
I pick out the white umbilical thing of an egg before it is cooked. That thing always stays gooey. When you get it in a bite, it registers fairly high on the gag scale.

chalazas just hold the yolk together. it’s kind of like an umbilical cord, but not truly (it doesn’t supply nutrients, that’s the yolk’s job). I don’t think it really survives in tact with a scrambled egg, but I’ve never noticed it while having a fried egg either. I think it’s an aversion brought upon by self suggestion more than fact, like the silly reasons kids wont eat certain things. I think I cook eggs too often to have not noticed this…
That part is where the baby bird comes from. It’s the actual possible baby bird cells ><
I pick them out too. Everyone thinks I am crazy for it.
I do that too! I thought I was the only one. That thing is nasty and I can find it in any cooked egg because it never really changes shape or consistency.
I thought I was the only one!
I tell myself I was have to “get the baby out”.
I tell myself I have to “get the baby out”…
is what I meant.
I thought everyone did this. I learned it from my mom.
once i cracked open an egg and it was bloody. if that didn’t put me off eggs forever, i don’t see how a wee bit of umbilical cord would.
I actually got into trouble in Home EC for doing this…my mom taught me and to this day will always tell you to take that thing out of her eggs!
