Comments on: escalators are so slow

My Grandmother had a problem with down escalators.
She once fell on the way down and cut her leg and refused to ride on a down escalator after that. Going up was fine but never down.
On entry to a shop it was my job as eldest grandchild to scout out whether there was another way down so to ensure my Grandmother was not trapped in the lingerie section for ever.

Can’t you just walk up them like stairs? I mean, if the problem is that they’re slow?

I had a panic attack in the middle of the mall when my boyfriend suggested we go down the escalator…

I thought touching escalators was a no go? I don’t like to touch them if I can help it, myself… But then again I have poor balance so it happens sometimes.
